300B Stereo
Tube Amplifier
Aural Thrills Audio 300B SET Deluxe Model Made in the USA Includes Tubes
I am thrilled to introduce my world class 300B stereo amplifier. Designed with only one goal in mind. Great sound. If you have purchased any of my other products you know that this unit will not disappoint. Putting out 8 powerful watts per channel this amp can drive most speakers. The reason? This amplifier has been designed by a tube amp master, Gary Dodd of Dodd Audio. The amp can drive speakers with a 87db rating to very acceptable levels. I use it on 91db speakers with no pre amp and use only half of its power. It is really a mighty mite and is manufactured completely in the USA. Service and advise is just a phone call away. It is available with 110/120/220/240 volt operation, 4 or 8 ohm output. I can offer this amp at a low, direct to buyer price because I cut out the middle man. This saves you $1000's on such a high quality unit. Construction details include only top line parts. Sonicap, Neutrik connectors, Halco resistors and more. A separate power box (not shown) provides very quiet operation. The signal tubes are 7044 or 5687, your choice. These are well know audiophile tubes. The supplied pair of 300B's are Valve Art. The transformers are custom wound exclusively to our specifications using all American made parts. No one else has them. Of course, being a single ended triode design, no negative feedback is used. Point to point wiring is included using Teflon insulated Silver throughout. You may notice that this amp is extra wide. This is to insure complete separation of the channels thereby creating the purity of Monoblocks without the expense and other associated problems. Only one capacitor is used in the circuit and a minimalist design ethic is employed. It is as close as you can get to just a wire and a tube. It has been styled in the Art Deco theme so popular during the heyday of the great 300B tube. The 300B was the source of sound for the first talkies. If you look at old films you will see "sound by Western Electric." The power supply for the 300B filaments is AC. I can not emphasize enough the importance of this. Most amp builders switch to DC to reduce noise. The problem is that doing so completely takes the magic out of this legendary tube. The CEO of the Western Electric Company, (designer of the 300B) Charles Whitener, told me in no uncertain terms that DC should not be used for optimum sound. Proper shielding, routing of wires, and a separate power supply box (not shown) result in AC being very quiet and the sound is superior in every regard. DC is the easy way out resulting in a very thin sounding amp. You have not heard the beauty of this tube unless you have heard it with AC! I have personally listened to this amp in many different versions. Cathode bias, with DC filament heating, the quietest and the worst sounding. Cathode bias with AC heating. A little better. Fixed bias with DC heating. Second best sound. And finally fixed bias with AC heating. With out doubt this is the best sound. It took a lot of work to get rid of the hum, but I have done it!
The standard model uses a solid state power supply for tight rich bass. A free upgrade to tube rectification via a 274B recreates the original design configuration. Either way this is one of the finest amps out there. If you are looking for the original rich, smooth sound of a 300B look no further. The sound is pure class A
