MM Phono Amp

I am happy to introduce my new, made in USA, Moving Magnet phono amplifer. I must admit that I have always been a low output moving coil kind of guy. Listening to this amp may have changed my opinion. This phono amp is very quiet. It uses only premium parts. Solen capacitors in all positions requiring a film cap. One percent metal film resistors and Silver Mica RF caps. All internal components are hard wired together. No circuit board is used. Circuit boards use very thin strips of Copper to connect parts. This results in signal degradation compared to hard wiring using 22awg pure Copper wire.

The RIAA circuit, (recording industry of America association) is one of the most important items in any phono amplifier. A good filter is one of the major items that gets the snaps, pops and surface noise out of your records. There are basically two types of circuits. I have listened to both types and find the feedback type of RIAA is far superior to the straight through filter type. The recordings sound cleaner and crisper with a feedback filter. The accuracy of the filter is next. All components used in my filter have been double checked for correct tolerances. Resistors are checked to insure great imaging. Nothing is left to chance.

The top and bottom plate are made of thick Aluminum plate which has been covered in a clear coat finish. The box is made of Red Oak and is finished in a polyurethane coating which will last forever. The transformer is a custom made unit (USA) which is designed to give years of trouble free service. The advantage for a custom transformer is the ability to provide exact voltages and currents without using resistors. This results in a superior sound and a cooler running unit.

The unit features 44db of gain and 47K input resistance. This amp will run most MM and high output MC cartridges. The sound is glorious, as tubes should be. Even though it costs more, I also use a real choke on the power supply. This is the way it was done before solid state and large capacitor banks. The choke adds a rich, less in your face type of sound. A more relaxed presentation.

The input and output Rca's are Gold plated to ensure a corrosion free connection. They are mounted on a thick Aluminum plate. The tube sockets are Ceramic. Not some cheap plastic. These made in the USA units are constructed like a tank and will give years of trouble free service. The required tubes are 3 X 12AX7, a very common tube type. All tubes are supplied. All amplifiers carry a 1 year warranty.
